Ban The Grand National? Absolute Rubbish!

From one of CFTS's intrepid reporters
"Throughout the country, hundreds of horses die accidental deaths every year in riding schools and pony clubs, when jumping and out trekking, and when carrying very fat bankers and their wallets. about half a dozen a year die in training for, and in, the show jumping arena. However, it is only horse racing, and the grand national in particualr, which is attacked. If you follow horse racing, when you look at the form of horses, you will often see the letters, R or PU next to their names. R means "refused" which means the horse refused to jump - that is, the horse decided it didn't want to go any further in a race - horses do have minds of their own. PU means "pulled up", meaning the horse was stopped or pulled up by the jockey, meaning the horse wasn't interested for whatever reason, bad day, hurt its foot, fancied going home, too wet, etc. and you will often see a horse, having dumped its jockey, continue racing and jumping fences. they love a good jump. Horses are natural runners, natural jumpers. when, in movies you see men being trampled to death by horses, it's not true. a horse will jump over a person/object rather than gallop or trample over it. that is in their natures, to jump. it is only when do-gooders in general see people enjoying themselves that they want to have a say, and claim that what people are enjoying is wrong and should be banned. they want us all at home, gloomy and despondent like themselves, looking for the next thing to protest against and ban. ban the banners, i say."
